La coraza es una serie fotográfica en la que llevo trabajando un par de años. Consiste en un grupo de retratos de distintos hombres, a través de los cuales se explora la idea de masculinidad, pero no según los estereotipos tradicionales que usualmente envuelven este concepto, como el coraje, la fuerza física, la competitividad y la auto represión de las emociones, entre otros.
La honestidad es lo que cada una de estas imágenes intenta reflejar, mostrando a los hombres en un espacio personal, íntimo y seguro, como sus dormitorios, baños y patios traseros, donde se les puede ver en una posición más frágil y vulnerable y no escondiéndose bajo una fuerte coraza.
Esta idea surge en una época especial, donde las mujeres están levantando la voz para luchar por la igualdad de género, dejando al sexo masculino en una posición distinta a la que está acostumbrado. Estos cambios pueden parecer incómodos para algunos de ellos, pero para otros puede significar una oportunidad de liberación, brindándoles el espacio para poder ser ellos mismos y no quienes otros esperan que sean.
The Breastplate is a photographic series that I have been working on in the past few years. It consists in a group of portraits of different men, that explores the idea of masculinity but without the traditional stereotypes that usually surrounds this concept, like courage, physical strength, competition and self repression of emotions, among others.
Honesty is what every image of the series tries to reflect, showing men in an intimate, personal and safe space, like their bedrooms, bathrooms or backyards, where the viewer can see them in a more fragile and vulnerable position, and not hiding behind a strong breastplate.
This idea comes out in a special time, when women are raising their voices to fight for gender equality, leaving the male sex in a different position than the one they were used to. This changes may be seen as something uncomfortable for some of them, but maybe for others it is a release opportunity, to be themselves and not what others expect them to be.
Esta idea surge en una época especial, donde las mujeres están levantando la voz para luchar por la igualdad de género, dejando al sexo masculino en una posición distinta a la que está acostumbrado. Estos cambios pueden parecer incómodos para algunos de ellos, pero para otros puede significar una oportunidad de liberación, brindándoles el espacio para poder ser ellos mismos y no quienes otros esperan que sean.
